What is IDAC?
Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC) draws members from parents to represent our school at district-level climate assessment/problem-solving meetings. The primary purpose of the Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC), originally formed in 1988 as the Intercultural Advisory Council is to assist in the formation and review of policies that assure non-discriminatory practices in all operational areas of the Clovis Unified School District. Its further mission is to assist in improving the cultural environment of the District.
Student Human Relations Council
The Human Relations Council consists of staff and students. The focus of the council is to help students feel safe, accepted and connected, address issues of diversity with school administration and/or staff, bring awareness to the differences of the school community, improve communication with students, staff, and families, and offer additional educational opportunities to students and parents on diversity issues.
Student Relations Council
Each semester in the academic year, the Liberty student body, grades 4th-6th, elect one student per grade level to the office of Student Relations. These students particpate in student leadership meetings and activities. These students bring diversity issues to the council to discuss and address areas of concern. These students also work with various student committees like the Kindness Committee and Liberty's Multicultural Advisory Committee Kids Interested in Diversity (MAC KIDs).
Kindness Committee
The Kindness Committee is dedicated to promoting acts of kindness and teaching empathy to the students at Liberty Elementary. We initiate events during the school year to encourage our students to “Start with Kindness.” We truly believe that the early practice of kindness and empathy makes a lifelong imprint on the life of each student and on our Liberty community.
Growth Mindset
Growth mindset: “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” Dweck, 2015
Clovis Support Intervention (CSI)
Clovis Support and Intervention (CSI) is a peer support group that students may be invited to participate in. These voluntary groups are designed to increase students' confidence, decision-making skills, listening and communication skills, and problem solving strategies. By building these personal skills and providing support, students will be better equipped to effectively cope with peer pressures, school related stress, and other issues of concern.
These confidential groups meet weekly and are scheduled for a 30-45 minute period for 8 sessions. Groups are considered a school activity, so participating students will not be counted as absent. Student are expected to be responsible and to make up any missed assignments through arrangement with their teacher.
Groups are lead by specially trained facilitators who are CSI/SAP Certified. This training model is used by schools across the nation as part of the National Student Assistance Program.
